Our History
2018-2022
Sapiens was founded in 2018 by Olena Tkachova, an educational innovator driven by the desire to transform outdated models of learning. In 2022, her experience deepened as she worked with over 250 teenagers in Poland and Germany, gaining valuable insight into the emotional, social, and academic needs of young people in a rapidly changing world. These experiences helped shape a school committed to supporting both local and international students through a globally relevant, inclusive, and future-ready approach.
2023
In September 2023, Sapiens Up Democratic School for Teens opened in Warsaw. After two years of steady growth and increasing international engagement, the school evolved into Sapiens International Innovative Community School, grounded in three core values:
- Internationalism: A diverse community of students and educators, integration of global curricula, and access to international qualifications.
- Innovation: A break from rigid structures, emphasizing personalized, student-led education.
- Community: A democratic, participatory culture where students, parents, and educators are co-creators of the learning environment.
At Sapiens, all students—regardless of nationality—are welcomed not only as learners but as contributors to a vibrant, inclusive global school community.
What Makes Us Different?
Our Mission
To redefine education through creativity, collaboration, and real-life experiences, cultivating a new generation of free, adaptable, and confident individuals who are equipped to lead meaningful lives and address global challenges.
We champion flexible, personalized learning rooted in trust. Students co-create their schedules, explore subjects that inspire them, and progress at their own pace. This nurtures autonomy, intrinsic motivation, and a lifelong love of learning.
With 80% of instruction in English and a strong focus on cultural diversity, we foster a multilingual, inclusive space. Parents are active participants, and each learner’s background is acknowledged and respected, creating a strong sense of belonging.
We are a school of equals. Through school councils, shared decision-making, and inclusive policies, every student, teacher, and parent has a voice. This participatory approach builds responsibility, respect, and leadership skills.
Creativity at Sapiens means the courage to imagine, the freedom to explore, and the discipline to realize ideas. Whether through arts, innovation challenges, or entrepreneurial projects, students are encouraged to think divergently and act purposefully.
